Bupropion – Anti-Depressant - For Pain Induced Depression

Still’s disease is defined as a disorder characterized by high spiking fever, transient salmon colored rash and or arthritis which leads to inflammation.  It was common noted in children than in adults. Systemic- Onset Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis is other name for Still’s disease. If it is in adults it is called as Adult- onset Still’s disease. It is a kind of rheumatoid disease.

In chronic pain, the patient can develop depression.  In such cases, Bupropion can be used to treat depression that is induced due to uncontrolled pain.

The exact cause of the disorder is unknown. It begins with body wide symptoms. Extreme fatigue along with high fevers with temperatures of 102 degrees Fahrenheit or even higher and after sometimes it rapidly come down to normal or even lesser than that. A faint salmon colored skin rash characteristically comes and goes without itching very often. The most common symptoms include poor appetite, nausea and weight loss. Joint inflammation and pain, muscle pain, swelling of lymph glands, sore throat, enlargement of spleen and liver etc are the other common symptoms associated with Still’s disease. For some inflammation occurs around the heart and lungs with occasional fluid accumulation around heart and lungs. In still’s disease usually more than one joint is affected leading to a condition called as polyarticular arthritis.

It is diagnosed based on the basis of the typical clinical features of the illness. Laboratory test shows increased level of white blood cells, inflammation and lowered red blood cells.  This disorder is long term problem. Constant arthritis of the wrists with eventual fusion is common. The blood reports show negative for rheumatoid disease.

The aim of the treatment is based on the inflammation in each area. Most of the symptoms are controlled by giving anti inflammatory drugs like aspirin or other non steroid drugs. In case of severe symptoms of illness cortisone medications are prescribed. Medicines are given analogous to the second line drugs given for rheumatoid arthritis.
